Recognizing Washington's Amazing Revenue Talent

HSMAI is accepting nominations for their national Revenue Management Awards to be given at the Revenue Optimization Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota this June. We hope to see some great turnout from Washington in the nominations. In a market as dynamic as Seattle, we have grown some very talented Revenue Leaders who are worthy of some recognition. Let’s put our state on the map!

I had a boss once who said they would never nominate people for national recognition because they once had an employee win an award and then they promptly left the company for a higher position. Where do I begin on how wrong that thinking is? Do you risk your Revenue Leader becoming more valuable to potential recruiters? Sure. But you also risk them being more loyal to you, their supportive employer. Not to mention putting your hotel or company in the limelight as the best-of-the-best in the industry.

The HSMAI Revenue Optimization Conference (ROC) is being held in Minneapolis this year. It brings back some fun memories as my first ROC conference that I attended was held there (too many years ago to admit to.) The networking and knowledge at these conferences is unparalleled, especially when you take a day to walk the floor at the adjoining HITECH conference. What an incredible place to challenge yourself to look for opportunities to make your business more successful and/or further your own career. Plus, the vendor partner parties are never boring!

Creating Leaders not Managers

An older article but good reminder from Simon Sinek’s book Together is Better.

This is so true. I still sometimes have to fight my tendency to “do” and remind myself that my job is to teach. I’m grateful to have worked early on for a company that focused on training for managers. It was invaluable to me. Training young managers to lead is a great strategy for businesses who want success and loyalty.
